Subscriptions: a thirty-minute audit that makes renewal dates visible
Recurring payments are easy to overlook because each one arrives separately. A short audit brings them together so you can choose which services still earn a place in your budget.
Collect the evidence
Review recent payment statements and the subscriptions pages in the app stores you use. Some plans renew annually, so check beyond the latest month. Record the service, price, renewal date, account email and cancellation route. Do not put passwords or full card numbers in the sheet.
Calculate the real comparison
Convert monthly plans to an annual total before comparing them with annual offers. A hypothetical 9 monthly plan costs 108 over twelve months. An 85 annual plan costs less only if you will use the service long enough and accept paying upfront. A discounted plan that you do not use remains an expense.
Cancel with a record
Use the provider's official account page. Read what happens to stored files or remaining access, then save the confirmation. Set a reminder before any plan you keep renews. If a cancellation button does not work, document the attempt and contact the provider through a verified channel. The outcome of an audit need not be cancelling everything; it can simply be knowing exactly what you are paying for and when the next decision is due.
